The tournament, which featured keenly contested football matches among various security agencies, climaxed with a colourful grand finale held at the Pantami Township Stadium in Gombe.

The grand finale was contested between the NPF and NDLEA, ending in a dramatic penalty shoot-out.

The police team emerged victorious, scoring five goals to NDLEA’s four.

The event attracted a large crowd, including top government functionaries, uniformed officers, and members of the public, all united in the spirit of peace and collaboration.

The governor emphasised the broader goal of the Unity Cup, stating that the event goes beyond sports.

“This initiative is a reflection of our collective dedication to building a safer, more united Gombe.

“We are already considering the formation and registration of a strong Gombe Security Football Team, which will serve as a lasting emblem of our inter-agency partnership,” he added.

In his remarks, the Commissioner of Police, Gombe State Command, CP Bello Yahaya, praised the conduct of participating agencies and underlined the importance of joint efforts in securing the state.

Yahaya added, “This Unity Cup is not just a football competition. It is a symbol of the unity and shared mission among our security agencies.

“The commitment, discipline, and sportsmanship displayed by all teams is a testament to the strength of our collaboration. Physical fitness, team spirit, and mutual respect are key pillars for effective policing and internal security.”
