Actress Evan Okoro Breaks Silence on Failed Marriage, Abuse and Threats

Nollywood actress Evan Okoro, widely recognised for her breakout role as ‘Doctor Maria’ in Sexy Investment, has spoken out about alleged threats to her life from her estranged husband, claiming he is endangering her life following the collapse of their marriage.

In a tearful video shared online, Okoro said she has been living in fear ever since he allegedly threatened to kill her if she ever left him. She revealed that she has already petitioned the police over the matter.

“If you leave me, I will kll you,” she quoted him as saying.

Speaking candidly about her troubled marriage, the actress said she now regrets the union, describing it as a mistake.

“This marriage is not working. The shoe I took home is not my size. They didn’t pay my bride price, and my family recently called them to come and do it properly,” she said.

She accused him of becoming controlling and aggressive, especially concerning her finances. According to her, he tried to take the money she earned during a recent business trip to Lagos and became violent when she refused.

“I got a little money for an advert in Lagos, less than my normal endorsement fee. He wanted the money, and when I refused, he got angry. He didn’t even call to check on me after the trip. It’s been over two weeks now,” she said.

Okoro further claimed that her husband had emotionally and physically withdrawn from the marriage, refusing to be intimate or provide any support. She said even after she reported his behaviour to his family, nothing changed.

“He’s jealous of my success,” she said, referencing online speculation that he planned to kidnap her after she posted about building her house. “I built that house myself. I started it before he came into my life,” she said.

The actress, visibly shaken in her video, said she’s had disturbing dreams and heard whispers about her safety, prompting her to speak out publicly.

“I’m not asking anyone for money. I just want to finish my house and focus on my life. If I keep living like this, I will go down six feet,” she said.

Social media reactions to her revelations have been swift and divided, with many commending her for breaking her silence.

“I like the fact she’s speaking out,” wrote Instagram user @smallchopsacademy. “People will laugh today, laugh tomorrow but won’t laugh forever. I pray she gets all the help she seeks and deserves.”

Others expressed frustration at her choice of partner.

Despite the criticism, some lauded her bravery.

As the story continues to unfold, Okoro has made it clear that her priority now is survival, not saving a broken marriage.

“If anything happens to me, let the world know I cried out,” she said. “I did everything to make the marriage work, but my life comes first now,” Okoro said.
