APC clinches Jigawa federal constituency by-election victory

The All Progressives Congress has won the Babura/Garki federal constituency bye-election held on Saturday, August 16, in Jigawa State.

The Independent National Electoral Commission’s Returning Officer, Professor Salihu Ibrahim, declared the results on Sunday at the INEC collation centre located within the INEC Babura Office.

Speaking as he announced the final tally, Ibrahim said, “The APC candidate, Mukhtar Rabi’u Garki, scored a total of 38,449 votes, making him the winner of this bye-election.”

He added that the election was conducted peacefully and transparently.


According to the Returning Officer, “The Peoples Democratic Party candidate, Isa Auwalu, came second with 13,519 votes, while the New Nigeria People’s Party scored 2,931 votes.”

Ibrahim assured stakeholders that the election process adhered strictly to electoral guidelines and commended security agencies for maintaining calm throughout the day.

He noted, “The collation of results from all polling units was smooth, and all results were accurately recorded before the announcement.”

Observers described the APC’s resounding victory as a reflection of the party’s strong grassroots support in the constituency.

Ibrahim emphasised the importance of peaceful acceptance of results, urging all parties to work together for the development of the constituency.

He stated, “It is vital for all participants and supporters to respect the outcome and strive for unity moving forward.”

The clear mandate for Mukhtar Rabi’u Garki to represent the Babura/Garki federal constituency at the National Assembly highlights the APC’s resilience after a tough political contest in the area.

However, the election concludes the process to fill the vacant seat left by the late representative.

The PUNCH gathered that the PDP’s Isa Auwalu, although trailing, showed significant votes, indicating the competitive nature of the election in the federal constituency.
