Akon’s Wife Tomeka Files for Divorce Days Before 29th Anniversary

Tomeka Thiam, the wife of popular Senegalese-American singer Akon, has filed for divorce just days before their 29th wedding anniversary.

According to court documents filed on Thursday, September 11, 2025, in Fulton County, Georgia, Tomeka is asking for the marriage to be officially ended. She is also requesting joint legal custody of their child, with visitation rights for Akon.

In the filing, Tomeka asked the court to grant her spousal support from Akon and to deny any request he may make for support.

She cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the divorce.

Tomeka and Akon got married in September 1996. They have a 17-year-old daughter together.
