Nigerian Kits Are Not Inferior – NSC Chairman Replies Tobi Amusan

Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Shehu Dikko, has responded to Nigerian athlete Tobi Amusan’s complaints about the sports kits provided for the World Championships in Tokyo.

Amusan, who holds the world record in the 100m hurdles, had expressed her frustration on Snapchat. She showed fans the kits given to her and said they were of poor quality. She also criticised the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) for poor planning and lack of professionalism.

Speaking on Channels Television, Dikko defended the kits, saying they were of international standard and were supplied by the sportswear company HiRacer.

“The kits are not inferior. In fact, the AFN should be praised for securing the deal with HiRacer so quickly,” he said.

He explained that other countries are also using similar kits from the same brand. He admitted the issue might be with how the kits were packaged or the quantity given.

“Maybe her issue is with the packaging — it wasn’t put in a fancy box or bought in large quantities like others do. But the AFN has already said the kits are being provided in parts, so it shouldn’t be a major problem,” he added.

Dikko also said the same kits have been used by other Nigerian athletes and that the quality matches what athletes from other countries are wearing.
