Kebbi ADC Urges Supporters to Stay Calm, Let Authorities Investigate Attack on Malami

The Advisory Council of the Abubakar Chika Malami (SAN) political movement, under the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has called on supporters to remain calm and allow the authorities to properly investigate the recent attack on Malami’s convoy in Birnin Kebbi.

The Chairman of the Council, Alhaji Shehu Aliyu Sambawa, made this appeal in a statement shared with journalists in Birnin Kebbi. He strongly condemned the attempted assassination of the former Minister of Justice and his supporters.

Sambawa also criticised the recent press conference led by Senator Muhammad Adamu Aliero and the National Assembly (NASS) caucus.

He said, “Political leaders should rise above party politics, especially when it comes to serious matters like the safety of lives and property. One would have expected Senator Aliero to condemn the attack, call for peace, and demand a full investigation and punishment of those behind this violent act, regardless of their political party.”

“Sadly,” he continued, “instead of condemning the attack, Senator Aliero and other APC members made false and baseless accusations against Abubakar Malami, SAN. They were not even present at the scene but chose to speak in ways that made no logical sense.”

Sambawa explained that Malami visited Birnin Kebbi, his hometown, to pay condolences to the Emir of Gwandu a close family friend and to the families of two respected Islamic scholars. He questioned why anyone would use a time of mourning for political campaigning.

“The visit was strictly limited to four mourning families in Nassarawa Ward 1, Birnin Kebbi. But when people saw Malami’s convoy, news of his visit spread quickly. Many came out just to see him, as he is a well-loved political figure in the state,” he said.

He added that no campaign materials, music, or party symbols were used during the visit, as confirmed by videos shared on social media.

“We believe the large crowd that followed Malami’s convoy made the APC and its supporters jealous, leading them to violently attack him near his private residence,” Sambawa claimed. “We challenge anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward and say otherwise.”

He also accused the APC of giving conflicting and illogical versions of the incident in an attempt to cover up the truth. “The thugs came from the APC party office and ran back there after the attack,” he alleged.

Sambawa criticised APC spokespersons for defending what he described as a criminal act, even though they were not witnesses to the incident. “They defended the indefensible perhaps for money,” he said.

He ended by urging all ADC members and supporters of Abubakar Malami, SAN, to remain peaceful and law-abiding while the relevant authorities carry out their investigation.
