Presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 elections, Peter Obi, has dismissed images circulating on social media purporting to show him in meetings with United States President Donald Trump and Lagos transport union leader, MC Oluomo.
Obi on his verified ‘X’ handle on Wednesday described the pictures as “fake and doctored,” insisting that he never held such meetings.
He said one of the images falsely claimed Trump praised him, while another attempted to depict him in MC Oluomo’s office.
“These fabrications highlight the persistent dangers of fake news and disinformation in our society.
“They are not only misleading but deliberately designed to confuse, misguide, and distract the public,” Obi said.
He urged Nigerians and the international community to verify information before sharing and to resist what he described as a culture of propaganda that undermines truth and integrity.
Obi further clarified that if he had any such meetings, he would personally make them public on his verified social media handle.
According to him, his politics was not about “praise or cheap publicity,” but about confronting Nigeria’s real challenges in insecurity, education, healthcare, rule of law, and poverty reduction.
