Veteran singer Salawa Abeni has dismissed rumours claiming she has died. She assured her fans and loved ones that she is alive, healthy, and doing well.
In a video posted on Instagram, the Queen of Waka Music sang briefly and confirmed that she is strong and in good health.
Salawa Abeni thanked everyone for their love and concern and asked her fans to ignore the false reports.
She blamed the rumour on some blogs trying to gain attention online, calling the act shameful.
She said:
“My family, friends, and fans at home and abroad, thank you so much for your love and concern.
I am alive, healthy, and doing well.
Please ignore all the rumours.
Some blogs will do anything just to trend. It is very shameful.
The Queen is fine and doing great.
May God bless you all.”
Salawa Abeni rose to fame in the 1970s and has been a major influence in Nigerian music. She became the first Yoruba female artist to sell over one million copies of an album with her debut release.
