Nnamdi Kanu’s case should be settled out of court – Falana

Human rights lawyer, Femi Falana has advised pursuing a political solution in the case involving detained Leader of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.

Falana made the comment while addressing journalists during a visit to Abia governor, Alex Otti on Thursday.

He said there is no justification for Kanu’s case to continue to drag since some governments negotiate with bandits and other criminal elements.

“I cannot comment on pending proceedings. You understand me? Like you said, the case was in court today (Wednesday), but I believe that it is a matter that should be sorted out outside the courtroom.

“For me, it’s a political case. And if you have a situation where some governments are negotiating with bandits or other criminal elements, there can be no basis for not having that matter resolved politically,” Falana said.

Meanwhile, Daily Sun reports that the presidency has strongly opposed former presidential candidate and activist, Omoyele Sowore’s plan to hold a protest march to the Presidential Villa in Abuja, demanding Kanu’s release.

Sowore announced the #FreeNnamdiKanuNow protest would take place on October 20 at 7 a.m., calling the march “historic” in seeking Kanu’s freedom.

Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga insisted the planned demonstration threatens law and order, emphasising that Kanu is currently undergoing trial on treason charges that must proceed without interference.
