Bandits Attack Niger State Community, Kill 75-Year-Old Woman

The attack reportedly occurred just a few hours after Governor Umaru Bago paid a condolence visit to the Borgu Emirate Council over recent security challenges in the area.

It happened at about 10:00 p.m. on the same day, when armed bandits riding several motorcycles stormed the village, carting away food items and other valuables.

A source from the community confirmed that one elderly woman, identified as Hajiya Amina Adamu, aged 75, was killed during the invasion. According to the source, no resident was kidnapped during the attack.

“They came late in the night with many motorcycles, took food items and other valuables. Only one woman was killed, and no one was abducted,” the source said.

The incident occurred just hours after the Niger State Government issued a two-month ultimatum to residents of hamlets around Kainji Lake to vacate the area for resettlement.

The directive is part of renewed efforts by the state government to flush out criminal elements operating within the axis.

Governor Umaru Bago announced the ultimatum during a condolence visit to the Emir of Borgu, Alhaji Muhammad Haliru Kitoro, at his palace in New Bussa, following a recent terrorist attack in the emirate.

Efforts to obtain an official reaction from the Niger State Police Command are ongoing. When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, said he would provide details on the incident.
