igeria was plunged into darkness on Wednesday following another collapse of the national electricity grid, disrupting power supply across multiple states and regions.
The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) confirmed the incident in a public notice posted on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle on September 10, 2025.
According to the statement, the grid failure occurred at 11:23 a.m., resulting in widespread power outages across AEDC’s franchise areas, which include the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Niger, Kogi, and Nasarawa states.
“Please be informed that the power outage currently being experienced is due to a loss of supply from the national grid at 11:23 a.m. today, affecting electricity supply across our franchise areas,” the notice read.
The company assured customers that efforts are underway to restore power in collaboration with relevant stakeholders in the electricity sector.
“Rest assured, we are working closely with the relevant stakeholders to ensure power is restored once the grid is stabilised,” AEDC added.
The cause of the latest grid collapse has not been officially disclosed at the time of this report. Grid failures have been a recurring issue in Nigeria’s power sector, often attributed to aging infrastructure, poor maintenance, and system imbalances.
The blackout sparked fresh concerns among citizens and businesses, many of whom took to social media to express frustration over the country’s recurring energy challenges.
