A Federal High Court in Abeokuta, Ogun State, has ordered the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) to take over the cyberstalking case filed against the Alagbado of Agbado, Oba Adedayo Richard Shyllon.

According to the charge sheet (FHC/AB/79C/2025), the case was initially filed by the Commissioner of Police. The document was signed by the court registrar, R.A. Ismail, and obtained by our correspondent.

On Tuesday, the case came up before Justice Abiodun Adeyemi for the defendant to enter a plea. Oba Shyllon, 62, was present in court.

Lawyers present in court included:

  • Henry Obiazi (SP, OC Legal, Ogun State CIID) for the police prosecution
  • H. P. Ashasim for the AGF
  • Adekunle Funmilayo for the defendant
  • A. A. Ayodele, who represented the complainant in a watching brief

At the start of the hearing, Justice Adeyemi told the lawyers that the court had received a letter from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) in the AGF’s office. The letter, dated September 16, 2025, requested that the AGF take over the case from the police.

The judge said the request was made under Section 174 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), which gives the AGF the power to take over criminal cases.

AGF’s lawyer, H. P. Ashasim, confirmed the letter was sent and received by the office of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) on the same day. Copies were also sent to the Assistant Inspector-General of Police (Zone 2, Onikan, Lagos) and the Ogun State Police Command in Abeokuta.

After reviewing the request, Justice Adeyemi granted the AGF permission to take over the case.

The judge ruled:

  • “The AGF’s request to take over the case is approved.
  • The case between the Commissioner of Police and Oba Adedayo Richard Shyllon is now officially under the control of the AGF.
  • A copy of this order should be sent to the IGP, the AIG Zone 2, and the Ogun State Commissioner of Police for necessary action.”

With this ruling, the case will now be handled by the Federal Ministry of Justice under the AGF.
