Ekiti 2026: PDP aspirant scores APC govt low

A Peoples Democratic Party governorship aspirant in Ekiti State, Peter Obafemi, has queried the All Progressives Congress government in the state over what he called its low performance in the last three years.

Obafemi, an aviation expert, expressed the readiness of the PDP to return to government based on residents’ desire, which he said was occasioned by the current government’s low performance.

The PDP chieftain, who spoke in Ado Ekiti on Friday while officially declaring his intent to contest the governorship in the 2026 election, called for unity devoid of rancour and acrimony among members and leaders of the party, saying, “Only a united and formidable PDP can repeat the electoral victories of 2003 and 2014.”

He expressed a desire to dislodge the APC government in the state in a bid to rescue the state and its people, noting, “My motto is ‘Ekiti first’, to usher in a new era of peace, adequate security, economic boom, and judicious use of the state’s finances.

“Just go to the streets and tell us whether you can see what the APC government has done. You will see nothing. The current government is very low on performance. Ekiti people should expect liberation from the wilderness. We have been in the wilderness for too long. Almost 29 years of our existence as a state we have been in the wilderness.

“For too long, our state has been plagued by inequality, injustice and corruption. For too long, the voices of the marginalised and oppressed have been silenced. But today, we say enough is enough.”

Obafemi said that his desire was to fly the PDP flag as the platform to rescue the state, saying, “Today, we rise up and demand a better future for ourselves, our children and our communities.

“Today, we gather at a critical juncture in our state’s history. We stand at a crossroads, where the path we choose will determine the future of our great state. I stand before you, humbled and honoured to declare my intention to lead our dearest state forward.

“My return to seek the governorship seat after a break of over 10 years is to unseat the present government and put our state on a steady course of development.

“I bring to this state a wealth of experience, over three decades in public service, private enterprise and deep community engagement.

“I have created solutions where others saw obstacles. Now, I step forward to build a new government, one driven by innovation, inclusion, integrity and honesty,” Obafemi said.

The PDP chieftain, who said that the support of the members gave him the strength and confidence to press forward, said that with their backing, he was sure of winning the primaries and the 20 June 2026 governorship election to return the PDP to power in Ekiti.

The Director General of the Peter Obafemi Organisation, Mr Kunle Ogunjobi, urged PDP members to remain committed, dedicated and passionate about the cause, saying, “We are not just fighting for power; we are fighting for the future of our state, the welfare of our people and the dignity of our party.

“To the good people of Ekiti State, I assure you that our party is committed to providing responsible leadership, good governance and people-centred policies. We will work to revitalise our economy, improve our infrastructure and enhance the quality of life for all citizens,” Ogunjobi said.
