Nigerian celebrity chef, Hilda Baci, has set a new Guinness World Record for the largest serving of Nigerian-style jollof rice, weighing 8,780 kilograms (19,356 pounds, 9 ounces).
The record-breaking event took place in Victoria Island, Lagos, in partnership with food brand Gino, and has been officially confirmed by Guinness World Records.
The announcement was made on Monday via X (formerly Twitter):
“New record: Largest serving of Nigerian style jollof rice – 8,780 kg (19,356 lb 9 oz) achieved by Hilda Baci and Gino in Victoria Island, Lagos, Nigeria.”
Before the attempt, Guinness World Records had also sent Hilda words of encouragement.
Speaking to reporters, Hilda explained that she used 200 bags of rice for the event. The equipment used to weigh the dish—including a custom-made pot and crane—could only handle up to 20,000 kilograms in total weight.
She said:
“We weighed the pot at the start, and we had to weigh everything added to it. My goal was to reach between 17,000 to 18,000 kilograms of food. With the pot included, the total came to about 20,000 kilograms.”
The event had a lively, carnival-like feel, with music, dancing, and visits from many celebrities.
Nollywood actress Funke Akindele joined Hilda on stage, praised her determination, and even helped stir the tomato base for the jollof rice.
Other notable guests included the First Lady of Ogun State, Bamidele Abiodun, as well as celebrities like Kaffy, Tomike Adeoye, Enioluwa, Peller, Veekee James, Femi Atere, Samuel Banks, Alex Unusual, Folagbade Banks, and Spyro.
Hilda first gained national fame in 2023 after her cook-a-thon, where she cooked for over 93 hours, earning global attention and inspiring many young Nigerians—especially women—to pursue careers in cooking and the food industry.
