The Nigerian Red Cross, SS Mulumba and David Detachment, Surulere Division, Lagos Branch, held its Award/Induction Ceremony recently at the SS Mulumba and David Catholic Church, Lawanson, Lagos, recognising outstanding members for their humanitarian service, inducting new volunteers and patrons, and celebrating the decoration of the Parish Priest as a Patron.
The event brought together dignitaries, associates, patrons and members of the Voluntary Aid Detachments (VAD) in a spirit of unity and service.
The ceremony also recognised distinguished individuals and groups for their selfless service to humanity, welcomed new inductees into the Red Cross family, and honoured patrons who continue to support the organisation’s mission.
A highlight of the occasion was the decoration of the Parish Priest of SS Mulumba and David Catholic Church, Lawanson, Surulere, Lagos, Rev. Fr. Andrew Edogbo, as a patron of the Nigerian Red Cross, a moment that underscored the strong partnership between the Red Cross and the community.
In his address, the Commandant of the SS Mulumba and David Detachment, Surulere Division, Dr. Maxwell Nzekwe, reaffirmed the Red Cross’ timeless principles first established in Geneva, Switzerland. “Together, we can alleviate human suffering wherever it may be found, protect life and health, and uphold human dignity.” He further encouraged all members with the words of the Bible from Galatians 6:9: “Let us not become weary in doing good. For, at the proper time, we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”
He added: “The Nigerian Red Cross remains committed to promoting humanity, impartiality, neutrality, and voluntary service, while strengthening the culture of compassion and resilience within our communities.
“We appreciate the presence of our dignitaries, awardees, inductees, associates, patrons and the press, whose contributions made this event a resounding success.”
