The suspects allegedly behind the June 5, 2022, bombing of Saint Francis Catholic Church in Owo, Ondo State, Idris Omeiza, Al-Qasim Idris, Jamiu Abdulmalik, Abdulhaleem Idris, and Momoh Abubakar are set to be arraigned by the federal government.
The individuals will be tried before Justice Obiorah Egwatu of the Federal High Court in Abuja, after the federal government filed nine counts of terrorism against the five defendants.
The development comes three years after the arrest of the suspects was announced by the then Chief of Defence Staff, General Lucky Irabor.
The attack had been linked to the activities of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), as disclosed by the National Security Council.
More than 40 worshippers lost their lives while others were injured when the assailants invaded the church during a Sunday service and opened fire on them during mass.
