Former Anambra State Governor and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has visited the Olubadan-designate, Rashidi Ladoja, in Oyo State, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Obi was accompanied by his campaign spokesman, Yunusa Tanko, Labour Party’s 2023 Lagos governorship candidate, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, and Segun Adebanjo. He also paid a visit to former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
Speaking to journalists, Obi said he came to show respect to Ladoja because of the important role Ibadan plays in Nigeria’s political, social, and economic development.
He praised Ladoja’s experience as a former senator, governor, and businessman, saying it would help him lead Ibadan well.
“This visit is about Nigeria and the kind of leadership we need — selfless leaders who want to make the country better,” Obi said.
“Ibadan is a very important city in Nigeria. Ladoja, as a former governor, senator, and successful businessman, has all it takes to succeed as Olubadan. I will support him for the good of one Nigeria.
“Ibadan has played a big role in education too. Many Nigerians studied at the University of Ibadan and are doing well today.”
In response, Ladoja said his move to become the Olubadan is another way for him to serve humanity.
“I am alive today by the grace of God,” he said. “God is the one who chooses who becomes Olubadan — it’s not about money or influence. That’s why I will continue to thank Him.”
Earlier, Obi posted about the visit on his official X (formerly Twitter) page.
He said the visits gave them the chance to talk about Nigeria’s current challenges and the importance of unity, fairness, and justice.
“In both meetings, we talked about how Nigerians can live together in peace, fairness, and love. I strongly believe that with a capable and compassionate team, a new Nigeria is possible,” Obi wrote.
