Members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State on Friday staged a protest at the the Party Secretariat Osogbo, to express their displeasure over rumoured defection plan of Governor Ademola Adeleke to the Party.
The protesters, armed with placards with several inscriptions, said they are opposed to granting the Governor automatic ticket as the party’s gubernatorial candidate for the 2026 election.
The protesters, who gathered at the party headquarters, carried placards and chanted slogans rejecting what they described as an “imposition” of Adeleke on the party.
One of the protesters, Taofeek Afolabi, identified as part of the APC youth leadership, said “We are not saying the party should not accept Gov. Ademola Adeleke, but they should not give him an automatic ticket as the gubernatorial candidate for the 2026 election. He should come and queue like every other aspirant to contest for the ticket.”
Other protesters echoed similar sentiments, stating that while they would welcome Adeleke as a party member, he should not be handed the candidacy without a transparent primary process.
The demonstration lasted several hours before the protesters dispersed peacefully. As of the time of filing this report, the party leadership had not issued an official statement regarding the protest or the alleged plans to grant Gov. Adeleke an automatic ticket for 2026.
Governor Adeleke has not officially announced his defection but political atmosphere in the state indicates that the Governor may soon join the ruling party at the centre.
