The Federal Government is set to arraign human rights activist Omoyele Sowore on a five-count charge for allegedly posting false information about President Bola Tinubu that could lead to public unrest.
Sowore was seen at the Federal High Court in Abuja on Tuesday for the scheduled court proceedings.
The case also lists X (formerly Twitter) and Meta (owners of Facebook) as co-defendants.
According to the charges, Sowore is accused of using his official X account to make a post that the government claims was false and offensive.
The post was allegedly made on August 25, and is said to violate Section 24(2)(b) of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition and Prevention) Act, 2024.
The post was made within the jurisdiction of the Federal High Court, and the case is now set to proceed.
