President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called on religious leaders to work with him to build a strong economy that will help all Nigerians prosper.
He also urged them to continue promoting peace among different religions and to speak out against violence.
The President promised to partner with churches and faith-based organisations to fight poverty, reduce unemployment, and tackle inequality.
President Tinubu made these remarks at the opening of the Second Plenary Meeting of the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) held in Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom State. He was represented at the event by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume.
He described religious organisations as “a vital bridge for peace, unity, and moral renewal in the country.”
“Our work to improve security, expand social programmes, support agriculture, and rebuild infrastructure is all aimed at creating a better life for Nigerians,” Tinubu said.
“I want to assure you that the Federal Government will strengthen its partnership with the Catholic Church and other religious bodies, especially in areas like education, healthcare, social welfare, and skills training.”
“Together, we can fight poverty, reduce inequality, and build stronger communities,” he added.
The event was attended by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno, the Pope’s representative to Nigeria, Apostolic Nuncio Most Rev. Michael Francis Crotty, and several members of the National Assembly.
President Tinubu also told the bishops that true peace and unity in the country can only happen when spiritual leaders preach peace and stand against hatred, division, and extremism.
He encouraged them to continue “speaking the truth to power,” not just to the government, but to the society as a whole.
