Nigerian songstress, Tiwa Savage got emotional during a performance of her hit single, Somebody’s Son, in Benin Republic on Saturday.

The incident occurred at the “We Love Ya” Festival in Cotonou.

A video of the performance is currently circulating on social media.

In the video, Tiwa Savage can be seen wiping off tears and occasionally pausing during her rendition, while enthusiastic fans chanted to the lyrics of the song in apparent demonstration of support.

Somebody’s Son featuring Brandy was officially released on August 20, 2021, as part of Tiwa Savage’s EP Water & Garri.

Blending Afrobeat with soulful R&B, the hit single is an anthem of hopeful waiting for true love, with lyrics expressing belief that “somebody’s son” (a virtuous man) will eventually come to love them, promising a deep, lasting connection beyond heartbreak.

In October 2021, the former Mavin Records signee said that she and Brandy wrote the song so that “women would either dance or cry.”

But in July 2022, Tiwa Savage claimed that the song was dedicated to Jesus Christ and not about finding a lover.

“When I wrote Somebody’s Son, I was not even thinking about a relationship, I was thinking about Jesus Christ because he is the real somebody’s son,” she stated at a concert.

Now 45, Tiwa Savage married her former manager, Tunji “Tee Billz” Balogun in 2013 until their highly-publicised divorce in 2018.

She has not remarried.
