Two years of reforms show Tinubu’s visionary leadership – Minister

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has described the two-year performance of President Bola Tinubu’s administration as evidence of visionary and bold leadership.

Speaking at the inaugural National Dialogue on Citizen Engagement and National Security in Abuja on Tuesday, Idris highlighted a range of government achievements and stressed the importance of national unity and citizen trust in addressing the country’s security challenges.

The event, themed “One Voice, One Vision: Uniting Perspectives for a Stronger Nigeria,” was organised by the Voice of Nigeria.

Idris, in a statement signed by his media aide, Rabiu Ibrahim, noted that the timing of the dialogue was significant, coming as Nigeria stands “at the confluence of purpose and possibility.”

The minister said the forum aimed to connect national policies with the everyday experiences of citizens, describing it as more than just a policy discussion.

He cited several initiatives as markers of progress, including the removal of fuel subsidies and reforms in the foreign exchange system, investments in road infrastructure, the introduction of a student loan scheme, and the establishment of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund and CreditCorp.

“Just last week, we commemorated the second anniversary of the Tinubu administration with ample proof of its monumental positive impact,” the minister said, adding that no previous democratic government had delivered such sweeping reforms in the same time frame.

He pointed to improvements in food prices, efforts to combat insecurity, local government autonomy, and the creation of ministries for regional development and livestock as indicators that policy implementation was beginning to yield results.

He added, “With President Bola Tinubu, the voices are audibly uniting in further support of a man of vision and courage.”

The minister emphasised the importance of unity in securing the nation, stating, “There can be no national security without national unity. And there can be no unity without trust.”

Idris also praised the role of VON in shaping national identity and narratives beyond news broadcasting, emphasizing its efforts to reach citizens in multiple languages and across the diaspora.

Highlighting the purpose of the dialogue, he called for collaboration among government, civil society, media, and security agencies.

“This forum reflects that vision. It brings together government, media, civil society, and the security community, not in silos, but in synergy,” he said.

He concluded by urging participants to commit to values of truth, equity, transparency, and compassion in all spheres of public life.
